Weight Loss & Metabolism

The Truth About Weight and Metabolism

Weight loss is not just about willpower or calories in and calories out. (Despite what many health and fitness coaches tell you).

Your metabolism is influenced by your hormones, nervous system, and how your body handles stress and energy. When these systems are out of balance, weight loss feels impossible no matter how “healthy” you eat or how hard you exercise.

My hope is that this gives you clarity on what you have been experiencing, and why it may not align with the one-size-fits-all advice you see from fitluencers.

What Metabolism Does

Your metabolism is the process that turns food into energy. It is directed by hormones like insulin, thyroid hormones, cortisol, and even reproductive hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. When your metabolism is steady, you can maintain energy, build muscle, and regulate your weight. When it is disrupted, your body holds onto weight as a form of protection.

So Why Does Weight Loss Feel So Hard Sometimes?

  • Insulin resistance makes it difficult for the body to use glucose properly, leading to fat storage (especially around the midsection).

  • Thyroid changes slow down the rate at which your body burns energy.

  • High cortisol from chronic stress encourages fat storage and cravings, especially for sugar and carbs.

  • Low sex hormones (progesterone, testosterone, estrogen) change where and how your body stores fat.

Common Signals of Metabolic Imbalance

Weight gain, especially around the belly or hips

  • Fatigue even after sleeping well

  • Cravings for sugar or carbs

  • Difficulty building or maintaining muscle

  • Energy crashes after meals

  • Mood swings or brain fog

Metabolic disorders are not simply about diet or exercise — they are about how your hormones, nervous system, and metabolism interact.

My Approach to Weight Loss

Most advice for weight loss focuses only on diet and exercise. If that worked long term, you would not be reading this I’m assuming. My approach goes deeper, because weight is not just about willpower. It is about hormones, metabolism, and the nervous system.

  • Insulin: I help you improve blood sugar balance so your body stops storing fat and starts using fuel properly.

  • Thyroid: I help you support your thyroid, your body’s metabolic engine, so it works with you instead of slowing you down.

  • Cortisol: We reduce stress signals that push your body to store belly fat and drive cravings.

  • Sex hormones: I address shifts in estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone that change how your body stores fat and energy.

  • Nervous system: I teach tools to calm fight-or-flight so your body can actually let go of stored weight.

Weight loss is not about starving yourself or punishing workouts. It is about helping your body feel safe and supported enough to release the weight it has been holding onto.

Do you recognize these patterns? Understanding your metabolism is the first step to changing how you feel day to day, and how your body works long term.
